12 Ways to Destress Before Finals

December is here, that means finals are soon to follow. Now if you’re like me, and the stress of exams just gets to you, here’s 12 ways to destress before finals.

12. Face masks

Yeah, it may sound typical, but trust me, face masks work wonders. You are washing away all the stress from your face, plus it will be smooth (and will hopefully smell beautifully).

11. Coloring

There have been studies done showing that coloring takes away your stress. If you’re really pissed at your professor, use a swear word coloring page and hand it to them after the final. Complete a picture and it will make you feel accomplished.

10. Clean/Reorganize

Make your bed. Vacuum your floor. You’ll be accomplished and it will get you up from that sitting position you’ve been in to get up and wake up your brain.

9. Bake

Do some work with your hands. It will keep you distracted for 10 minutes, you can study while they’re baking, then you can enjoy a warm cookie while you study.

8. Paint your nails

You’ll be so focused on painting your nails that you’ll forget to stress about your english final.

7. Go outside and go for a little stroll

Sometimes some fresh air is all you need. If you’re in the northern area, make it a quick walk around the block. Just remember to bundle up.

6. Have a quick 30 second dance party with your roommate/friends

Channel your inner Meredith and Christina!

5. Take a shower

Let the water run all your stress down the drain.

4. Call your mom/dad/anyone

Calling and talking to my parents always brings my stress down. Knowing that they will always listen helps too. Same with my awesome nana.

3. MAKE A TO-DO LIST

This one is very important. You do not want to forget anything you have to do. Write it all down right away and check it off as you go.

2. Workout

Getting some exercise by either going to the gym or going on a run will help you release some of the tension that you may have due to the stress of finals.

200-18

1. Watch ONE episode of a funny show on Netflix

Take a 20 minute break and unwind with a little laughter. Some recommendations are New Girl, Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Parks & Rec, The Office, and Scrubs.

Now good luck and go ace those finals! Remember C’s get degrees.200-19

Some days life can seem like too much. Whether it’s work, friends, family, I mean it’s definitely family but other stuff could be going on, too. There are a lot of ways people choose to cope with stress. Do the words “Netflix and Chill,” ring any bells?

Some people also take up hobbies like jogging, knitting, or cooking. Some people take classes at their local rec center, maybe you’re one of those people who doesn’t care what they’re doing as long as they get some time alone. Also there should always be snacks available.

It can feel unproductive, or even lazy to desire time spent doing nothing, but everyone needs a chance to recharge their batteries at times. When that time comes there’s nothing wrong with lying back and enjoying a nice episode of Game of Thrones. Which is back by the way.

However, during times when your stress is through the roof and sitting in a big soft chair with a book just isn’t doing it for you, there are other options. Some people will get a massage, or even go all out with a spa day. This is even something you can do at home if your bed is big enough and you have a few bucks lying around to buy a face mask.

Some people prefer to go out, in which case you can gather up some friends and burn off some steam at a bar or club. If you want something more low key, well there are always restaurants around, or you could even go see a baseball game.

Everyone is different, so it’s really all about what works for you. One thing that seems to work with just about anyone though, is the soft cuddly touch of a fuzzy animal. You might have your own pet, but if you don’t and just need a quick hug, then you might want to check out therapy animals.

I never want to have a roommate every again in my entire life. They smell, they are often naked, and they don’t have boundaries.

The following is a list of 13 reasons why I refuse to have a roommate ever again; aside from the fact that roommates are awful in  general. I’m a true fan of solitude.

*NOTE: SOME OF THESE STORIES ARE ABOUT THE SAME ROOMMATE – I DIDN’T HAVE 13 CRAZY ROOMMATES (ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES I WONDER)*

Yah, you read that right. A couple of years ago my roommate was a complete and total wierdo. She was constantly accusing people of doing things that were intended to harm her in one way of another. This girl was the epitome of “the world is out to get me”. One weekend in particular she had a couple friends from home visiting, and they were staying in our tiny apartment with us. I was in my bedroom, which was connected to the kitchen, doing some studying when I heard my roommate start cooking breakfast with her friends. They were cooking for about 10 minutes when one of her friends asked if she could help herself to some orange juice, to which my roommate replied, “Yes, but grab the one in the back because the other one has butter in it” (Yes, ladies and gents – BUTTER). Her friend naturally was freaked out and asked why. My roommates answer was “Oh, I think she’s been drinking my orange juice, so I put butter in it”. Can you say crazy?

This roommate was also my cousin – I think it’s important to know that before we get into the story. She was my best friend for my entire life, and so when she moved to my city, we decided we would live together to save on rent! About halfway through the year she got a new boyfriend who was over all the time, and they would leave their dishes and garbage everywhere, so naturally I asked if she could keep it tidy, because it was getting gross (what an understatement). This was the start of WWIII because from this point on we didn’t get along. She stayed disgusting, but now wanted to make my life a living hell and decided she would destroy all of my condoms. Luckily I discovered it before I used any, but really… This kind of revenge is just uncouth.

In my first year of college I lived in a townhouse on campus with 5 other girls. I went to high school with one of them, one of them became my best friend, 2 of them were from the same town and were best friends, and then there was this one girl that got kicked out of her original townhouse because her roommates hated her, and we said it was fine if she lived with us. We were being kind, ok? Oh, the regret. Throughout the year we started to realize our dishes and utensils started to drop in numbers. It was fine because between the 6 of us we had enough dishes to get by, but it was still sort of odd. When this roommate finally moved out we went into her room to find all our dishes piled up in a tower – along with all of her caked on foods from the year.

The first month that will be touched on is Aries (March 21- April 20). The fear connected with Aries is the fear of losing loved ones. Aries don’t respond well to seeing long term relationships come to an end. However, it doesn’t just apply to relationships, it also applies to death of loved ones. Aries have a hard time dealing with the major losses in their life so if you know one going through a loss you may want to be more sensitive with them.

The fear of losing a loved one isn’t all bad. It means that Aries have strong qualities like being very caring and nurturing. They give a great amount of effort to their relationships because they cannot stand them coming to an end. This can help relationships thrive because when you have someone putting in a maximum effort then it provides some leeway to the other partner on bad days.
