15 Principles of Party Etiquette All Students Should Know
Don't be that person at the party everybody hates. Learn to have some manners and follow these 15 principles of party etiquette all students should know.

Partying is a key part of the college experience, and it’s among the most enjoyable ways to spend a Friday night. You’ve just been through a long week of boring classes and seemingly endless homework; you need to let loose and enjoy yourself.

Of course, as with all good things, you need to do your part to make the most out of the experience. If you don’t follow proper party etiquette, you may end up annoying people. So, when you head out in the evening to drink, dance, and awkwardly flirt, keep the following principles in mind:

15. Don’t Take Total Control Of The Music

A lot of parties let people in attendance handle the musical selections, but you can’t show up to a stranger’s place and pretend you’ve been hired as the DJ. Not everyone shares your music tastes, and no one thinks you’re cool for showing them off.

14. Don’t Hit On Everyone

College students will always hit on each other at parties. However, there’s a difference between friendly flirting, and coming on too strong, going after anyone you find attractive. You’re there to have a good time; if you meet someone along the way, great, but don’t force the issue.

13. Don’t Bring Your Guitar If You Weren’t Asked To

We know you want to impress everyone with your acoustic renditions of classic John Mayer tracks, but that’s why open mic nights exist.

12. Don’t Get Aggressive

Some people get goofy when they drink, some people get emotional, and some people react as if they’re The Hulk. Don’t be that person. Everyone is trying to have fun. Looking for fights will ruin that.

11. Don’t Drink Everything

If your party hosts have been generous enough to provide alcohol, don’t be the person who drinks half of it. Sure, the desire to indulge is a strong one, but that’s why you drink in your dorm first before going out.
