5 Stress Relieving Tips Every College Student Should Know

As college students we get stressed over the biggest and smallest things. We stress over deadlines, class work, if the person we’re crushing on will text first, if we look okay etc. It’s easy to get overwhelmed at school but it’s important for us to take some time out for ourselves. Here are my top five stress relieving tips every college student should know.

5. Lavender Oil

Lavender oil is great to help relieve stress because it smells so relaxing and helps calm us down. Put some on your pillow before you go to bed to help sleep at night, or put a few droplets in while you shower to make showering more relaxing!

4. Zzz……

I know, I know it’s hard to get a good nights rest in college. There is so much going on at night like parties, catching up on homework, studying and Netflix. The National Sleep Foundation (I know I couldn’t believe it was a real thing either) says that adults between the ages of 18-25 need 7 to 9 hours a sleep. It’s hard to do but try it out, you never know a good nights rest might help jumpstart your 8 A.M.

3. Listening to Music

It doesn’t have to be meditation music, but taking a quick break from all the studying and listening to your favorite artists can help destress you. My personal favorites are Adele, Beyonce (obvi), Sia, Ariana Grande and Drake. The best part of listening to music on yours study break is you can have a quick dance session with your friends!

2. Watching T.V.

Indulging once in a while is good for the soul. When you feel like you’re on the brink of a meltdown put your books to the side and watch a couple episodes of your favorite t.v. show. If you try to work when you’re not at your best then it’ll be bad and you’ll have to redo it later.

1. Tea

It’s not only tastes good, but it’s good for you. Drinking tea, especially green tea is great for the body and mind. You can sit back and relax for a bit with either green tea or chamomile tea to help rejuvenate and refresh yourself.

These are some quick tips to help destress, just remember school isn’t worth stressing yourself and making yourself unable to work so set some time out of the day just for you!

Birds are truly amazing animals. For a long time, us humans have watched birds as they’ve ruled the skies, wishing that we, too, could someday possess the powers of flight for ourselves. How exhilarating would it be to glide through the air without having to worry about coming back down? To be able to float around in the sky for hours and forget all the worries of the surface world?

It would be fantastic, and birds are interesting for plenty more reasons than their flight capabilities. There are more than 9,000 recorded different species of birds in the world, and as we explore more uncharted regions that number only continues to rise. Birds can be found anywhere, inhabiting the snowy tundras of Antarctica as well as Africa’s barren deserts.

Wherever you go in the world, you’ll find different species of birds that vary in highly unique ways from each other. Some birds, like parrots, have the ability to talk, while owls and hawks make for excellent predators with their enhanced senses and arsenal of natural weapons. Birds are just plain cool looking, too, especially when they perform particularly exciting acrobatic feats.

Some birds, like cardinals, are beautiful and have coloration in their feathers that’s rarely found elsewhere in nature. Some birds are more suited to the water than the sky, swans swimming about gracefully while baby ducklings wobble about in a hilarious manner. Other birds call neither the skies nor the water home, such as the extinct dodo bird or the flamingo.

And have you ever seen a kiwi? Those things are crazy! They have this long, thin beak, sort of like a mosquito’s tail, but their bodies are round and odd-looking. And they’re called kiwis. How much more do you want out of your animal? Birds are also important to keeping natural cycles in balance by feeding on insects or other, larger critters to keep the ground-dwelling population free of pests.

Up next we’ll take a look at some cool facts about birds you definitely haven’t heard before.

Even though animal birth defects are technically abnormal and may somehow impact the animal negatively, some of them can be pretty cool or useful. We’ve all seen pictures of critters born with two heads, or an extra leg, or maybe with a strange coloration before. In humans, birth defects are the number one cause for infant mortality, but they can add to the charm an animal has.

Defects can affect any organ system or part of an animal’s body. Breeders especially try to weed out any odd characteristics a potential pet or show animal might have. Some abnormalities might only have a slight affect on the animal, or lessen over time until they’re not really an issue, which is always a good thing. Some, however, have negative consequences that can’t be cured.

The thing is, getting a pet checked for potential birth defects is really the only way to ascertain whether or not there’s anything wrong with them. Some defects are internal or develop over time, so aren’t immediately apparent. Usually, these are the defects with the worst possible repercussions. But checking your dog or cat for defects can be both painful and pricey.

If you’re worried that your pet might have a defect, or want to make sure that he or she doesn’t, you should first seek a veterinarian’s advice. If your puppy’s having medical issues, those may be resolved more easily than a check. The only real defects you can be sure of are physical ones; maybe your cat’s tail’s too short or she has oddly-colored fur.

Internal issues usually can’t be noticed until the animal has already started developing symptoms and will need treatment to get better. Some defects can take weeks or months to show up, which is why it may be a safer bet to get a dog or cat than a puppy or kitten. It’s also important to know your pet’s family; if your cat’s mother or father had bad teeth, for example, there’s a good chance your little guy could’ve inherited them.

Some days life can seem like too much. Whether it’s work, friends, family, I mean it’s definitely family but other stuff could be going on, too. There are a lot of ways people choose to cope with stress. Do the words “Netflix and Chill,” ring any bells?

Some people also take up hobbies like jogging, knitting, or cooking. Some people take classes at their local rec center, maybe you’re one of those people who doesn’t care what they’re doing as long as they get some time alone. Also there should always be snacks available.

It can feel unproductive, or even lazy to desire time spent doing nothing, but everyone needs a chance to recharge their batteries at times. When that time comes there’s nothing wrong with lying back and enjoying a nice episode of Game of Thrones. Which is back by the way.

However, during times when your stress is through the roof and sitting in a big soft chair with a book just isn’t doing it for you, there are other options. Some people will get a massage, or even go all out with a spa day. This is even something you can do at home if your bed is big enough and you have a few bucks lying around to buy a face mask.

Some people prefer to go out, in which case you can gather up some friends and burn off some steam at a bar or club. If you want something more low key, well there are always restaurants around, or you could even go see a baseball game.

Everyone is different, so it’s really all about what works for you. One thing that seems to work with just about anyone though, is the soft cuddly touch of a fuzzy animal. You might have your own pet, but if you don’t and just need a quick hug, then you might want to check out therapy animals.
