Halloween: Childhood vs. College

As Halloween quickly approaches and we all scramble to find the perfect costumes, it only feels fitting to look back at what Halloween meant to us as kids. Surprisingly there are some similarities…

6. Week Nights

Childhood: Having Halloween in the middle of the week was a death sentence. The only day of the year where our parents would let us out past our bed times to run around and collect candy, and it’s on a Wednesday?! Hello curfew, goodbye jumbo candy bars…Better luck next time kid!

College: Do “week nights” even exist? Not even the idea of class the next day could stop us from going out 3 nights in-a-row half dressed and drinking till we can’t feel how cold we actually are.

5. Homemade vs. Store Bought

I'm on a Budget

Childhood: It was always easy to tell which costumes were made by the kids themselves, by their parents or bought online. No matter what though, they all had the same theme: princesses, angels and devils, superheroes and the typical drugstore last minute purchase. Then there were always the exceptions of the historical figures and puns (mostly made by parents).

College: While college is all about DIY, Halloween is still a “who’s who” of which costumes are straight from the closet and who bought theirs online. The amount of fabric being payed for however has decreased significantly.up-next-page
