Ah, the great land of these United States of America. Of our many wonders such as the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, a staunch refusal to use the metric system, and the glorious trash panda, is there one that does not pale in comparison to the great lakes?

The Great Lakes of North America, or The Laurentian Great Lakes, are our very own interconnected series of freshwater lakes, belonging solely to the United States, (and Canada). Together they form the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth. By total area anyway, they come in second for volume of water.

But never mind that! The Great Lakes are made up of 5 total lakes, or 4 depending on how you count. They are the lakes Erie, Ontario, Michigan, Huron, or if you prefer, ‘Michigan-Huron,’ and of course, the most condescending lake of them all, Lake Superior.

With a total surface area of 94,250 square miles (see, anti-metric), and a total volume of 5,439 cubic miles, these lakes are truly an impressive feat of hole digging. I mean mother nature’s beautiful gift to us all.

But to put this into perspective, the surface area of the lakes could fit the entire United Kingdom. Which I suppose means that in the future if the entire UK wants to come visit us we have a nice chunk of water for their island to float on.

Bordering these lakes on either side is the Great Lakes Megalopolis. Which aside from being a fantastic word right out of a comic book, is actually a large group of metropolitan cities in North America. To the south, these include Rochester, Pittsburgh, the glory that is the Twin Cities, (go Minnesota, woo!) and of course, New York, New York. Of course, to the north we have Canada, with such cities as Toronto and . . . uh, did I say Toronto yet?
No matter what your parents may have said about body art growing up, most people reach adulthood knowing the truth, tattoos are cool. They can be a very strong form of self expression, one more powerful than simply slapping on a pin or walking around with a vague slogan on your jacket. They can also just be pretty cute or just plain awesome. Some people just pick something they think is neat and get it done, while others toss and turn for months trying to decide on the perfect design. Hopefully in the end, you wind up with something you’re happy with, even proud of. But some people don’t get quite what they asked for, or realize too late that maybe they should have just gone with a flower or a bird. Here are some of those people.
