A Tribute to Joan Rivers: The Queen of Comedy

If you haven’t heard the news today, the comic legend, Joan Rivers, passed away today at Mt. Sinai Hospital at the age of 81.  Last Thursday, Rivers was scheduled for a minor vocal procedure in an outpatient clinic where she went into cardiac arrest.  She was put on life support on Tuesday but then was moved out of the intensive care unit on Wednesday where she was “resting comfortably.”  After being on life support for several days, Joan’s daughter Melissa broke the news about the unfortunate passing of her mother with this moving quote. “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

Joan was the definition of “living life to the fullest” and a TRUE go-getter! You probably know her from the well-known E! fashion savvy show “Fashion Police,” where she would critique celebrities, especially their clothes with her “Joan Rangers.” Joan was witty, sarcastic but always knew how to bring a smile to your face because she was that kind of comedian.  Besides her great sense of fashion, she was extremely close to her daughter and best friend Melissa.  I bet you didn’t know Melissa executive produces “Fashion Police.”  They actually filmed a reality TV show together on WE TV called Joan & Melissa and her adorable son Cooper was also featured.  Like any other reality show there was drama.  Joan acted like the typical “Jewish mother” at times, but she only wanted the best for her family, and truly loved her daughter and spending time with her grandson.  Joan loved dogs and even had rescue dogs!  Joan had two other dogs, before her current pooch who was almost always by her side named Teegan.  Yes, she might have had a lot of plastic surgery, but she always knew how to dress classy and definitely sassy!  Joan is a fashionista and even has her own fashion line called the “Joan Rivers Classics Collection,” which you can buy online at QVC.  She proved she is a business mogul when she won the Celebrity Apprentice in 2009!

Joan never ceased to amaze her fans.  She has written many books, making appearances at book signings, and flying from coast to coast doing countless shows for her devoted fans. What made Joan timeless was she could relate to people of all ages.  She broke the “female comedian glass ceiling” and her jokes literally made you laugh out loud.  At times you might think “did she really say that?!,” but Joan always said what was on her mind!  Joan was a female pioneer comedian and trailblazer who gave us the gift of laughter. Yes, today is a loss in the world of comedy, but we are going to celebrate your life!  Joan is timeless and will not be forgotten. Today, all “Joan Rangers” and fans are saluting you! Rest in peace Joan. Keep smiling and laughing.  We will never forget you!
