Stop The Disrespect

I just want to take a few minutes to address one of the most controversial topics going on right now. Usually, I remain latent on things like this. Why? Well because, these days you can’t share your opinion on anything without being virtually, sometimes even physically, assaulted by some self-appointed experts on the subject. Regardless, I just want to speak out and say, especially to fellow students, where I’ve noticed a prevalence in this dissension, let’s stop the disrespect.

As of late, I have had to take a personal strike from social media because of the overwhelming amounts of comments about videos of police officers dealing with potential delinquents. As a matter of fact, in the five minutes I have opened Twitter I have come across seven videos, some of which I’ve posted below.

First, watching these videos leaves me speechless. The amount of disrespect from both parties is disgusting. I do not know what happened before the videos were taken, so I can not make any justifications towards anyone’s behavior.. What I do know, however, is that there is a common theme in most of the videos I see like these. Not only are people are yelling and screaming at the police, but they’re also waving a camera in their faces while they try to do their job. Not all officers are the best people, but the vast majority are not what the media makes them out to be. The good officers are lumped in with a few bad eggs and now the whole coop is being deemed worthless.

I, for one, am sick and tired of the ever-present plethora of inaccurate predispositions. The blame game is so old, not to mention the endless hashtags. Everyone is so desperate for justice that finding any way to manipulate others into sharing their hate is considered the only way to bring about THEIR idea of change. I am just sick and tired of the endless disrespect we all show to each other… and I know I am not alone.

WHY do people not realize that they are part of the problem? Getting into a police officer’s face and screaming at them? Screaming “F*ck 12!” out the window upon passing a patrol car? Marching down the street in protest shouting “‘What do we want?’ ‘DEAD COPS!'” … Things like that CREATE a prejudice, create unpremeditated responses to fear that may not have been present before. Think about it this way: if every time you approach a certain person, they get in your face, spitting and screaming, fighting and threatening to kill you? Would you make a point not to approach that person anymore? Moreover, what if it was your job to approach that person? How would you react the next time you got near them? What about a whole group of people who treated you the same way?

Now, call me crazy, but I wouldn’t be the calmest either if anyone might kill me just because of a badge. The preeminent “riposte” is that police officers are supposed to be trained to handle that kind of pressure. But they are still just people. People with families and lives of their own. Just because they chose a certain career path doesn’t mean they deserve to die. By the same token, being a minority doesn’t mean anyone deserves to be treated like sh*t. It’s a cycle, people, and it needs to stop. People treat others the way they are treated. The screaming, fighting, spitting, threats, the disregard of authority, the inability to cooperate, the vulgarity, the disrespect, the hate… IT ALL NEEDS TO STOP. You don’t know them, just like they don’t know you.

Unfortunately, yes, there are problems within the police department. And yes, some officers have negligent priorities, but not the majority. We as a society need to stop treating them all like garbage. This behavior gives bad cops reason to be worse, and good cops reason to quit in fear of being murdered. We, the people, need to take it upon ourselves to bring change to the system by changing how we act… NOT trying to force a change in something we can’t control.

Tattoos are really fun and really cool, but they’re not always viable. Eventually, that 30 Seconds to Mars ink you got done, perfectly complete with a detailed interpretation of Jared Leto’s face, just won’t be viable anymore. Maybe you’re trying to get a job at a car dealership or an elementary school- no one’s gonna want to see that smiling joker while you’re on the job at either of these places.

Lucy Hart Ink

Maybe that Bill Cosby tattoo doesn’t seem so appealing in light of recent events. You can’t show up to your next family function looking like you support an alleged rapist- that would just be in poor taste. In these kinds of situations, your only option is to get the tattoo removed. But how does one go about the process of removing their ink, and what are the costs?

Sugar Land Laser Tattoo Removal

The most popular method of tattoo removal is to use a laser beam which injects the skin with an intense light. This light will then break up the ink particle in the tattooed area, causing the unwanted design to fade. Anything that the laser doesn’t take care of will be outed by the body over time. Additionally, you don’t have to worry about the laser affecting the rest of your body because it only targets pigmented skin.

Another popular method called IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses small bursts of light to eradicate unwanted tattoos, instead of one concentrated beam that occurs in normal laser removal sessions. Either way, they do the same thing. But it’s not as easy as just going in for an hour and never worrying about your embarrassing markings ever again.

If you want to completely get rid of a tat, you’ll have to attend multiple sessions of laser removal. The amount of sessions depends on the inked area and content of the tattoo; simple lines will be easier, but more colorful, detailed spots will take longer. Treatments are normally scheduled three weeks apart, so getting rid of a tattoo is almost as big of a commitment as getting one in the first place.

Spray tans can get you the perfect beach body—but at what cost? Everyone knows spray tanning is not amateur-friendly, and great care needs to be taken into account if you want to avoid mishaps. But if you do have a mishap, make sure you contact us. You might end up like these poor women who had a very bad experience in the tanning salon.

You fell, or cut yourself while preparing lunch, or heck, maybe you even donated blood—point is, you’ve got a bandage on your arm. Maybe, just maybe, it might not be the worst idea in the world to take OFF the bandage when spray tanning? Y’know, so you don’t end up looking like this poor girl, who looks like a zebra on a bad day?

Oh boy, here we go. Armpits like this make you question the fashion value of tanning. What exactly happened here? Did the spray tan disappear from the rest of her white skin, but not her armpits? Was there some confusion with the spray tan, thinking it was spray deodorant? Whatever the case may be, at least we can take away one thing from this—super white skin does NOT go with tanned spots.

When you start getting hair tan lines, you know you’ve screwed up someone. There’s so many problems with hair when spray tan gets involved. First of all, you gotta be careful not to tan your own hair, it’s like rule two after don’t do cocaine. Secondly, problems like this sometimes arise, where you look like you’ve just escaped a soot-engulfed house fire.

I get that spray tans make people feel shallow and empty, but to start CRYING when applying them? If you feel that emotional about it, then just STOP, the Mediterranean look isn’t worth it. Although, maybe those tears were a result of complications with the tanning solution getting in your eye. Actually, that makes more sense. Tanning your face is tough stuff.

I think at one point or another, we have all thought about abandoning our stressful lives and retiring to a European Villa. We imagine waking up every morning in the cultural hub that is Paris France, soaking in the fashion and fantastic food as we walk down the street, inevitably turning heads as we go since it’s our imagination and we can do whatever we want.

Or maybe we think about travelling the English countryside. We could sit on a cliff overlooking the moors and ponder the question of our existence. Of course we would be interrupted by a dashing gentleman on horseback, but we wouldn’t mind really.

We could go biking in Copenhagen, wine tasting in Italy, we could hike the Swiss alps, go sightseeing for windmills in Holland or hunting for trolls in Norway. We imagine a world of endless possibilities and the joy we would feel at experiencing them firsthand.

Then our boss walks by and slaps a big pile of documents on our desk. Daydream over. As much as we’d all love to travel, or even settle down somewhere new, reality beckons and we are trapped in its grip.

You see, most of us don’t have the money to run away to a foreign country for a few months let alone a lifetime. Even if you planned on working there, the preparations alone may kill you before you ever arrive.

Finding a job, a home, checking your passport, getting a work visa, proving you’re not a terrorist, it all seems like so much effort when your daydreams make it seem so easy. Especially when you begin to think about how difficult it is to find good real estate.
