10 Signs that You’re in a Toxic Friendship

Friendships are for sleepovers, for laughing over inside jokes that no one else will understand, and crying on a shoulder when you need it. When did friendships become so complicated? Here are the signs that you need to save yourself the stress, and surround yourself with better people.

10. You find yourself asking all the questions.

“How was your day… oh really? What happened? When? That’s funny, why?” It’s nice to care about your friends lives, but aren’t friendships supposed to go both ways? Shouldn’t she stop talking about herself long enough to ask how you are?

9. You think more of your arguments than you think about your good times.

When her name comes to mind, you immediately think of the drama and the arguments. If you history mostly looks grey to you, chances are that this isn’t a healthy friendship.

8. Choices are rarely yours.

Who needed their friends input anyways? All decisions shouldn’t be made final through her. Non-toxic friendships aren’t “my-way-or-the-highway.”

7. You have to pick a side.

When she fights with someone else, you feel like you have to side with her otherwise all hell will break lose. You shouldn’t have to choose between friends, because real friends wouldn’t make you do that.

6. You feel more insecure around them.

Friends are supposed to make you feel more empowered, like you could take on the world. If you find your confidence suffering in her presence, surround yourself with people that build you up instead.
