10 Things That Happen When You Are The Middle Child

From one middle child to another, the struggle is real.

  1. You can easily claim the title of, “The forgotten child” after the third time your family went out to dinner without you because you were napping. Don’t wake me up… I wasn’t hungry anyways.

  1. Three words- Hand me downs.

  1. When your older sibling left for college your parents cried, and said nothing would ever be the same again. When you left for college, they called in October asking where you’ve been for 2 ½ months. And when your younger sibling goes to college they will cry again because their last child is all grown up. (Maybe not to that extreme, but you get the point.)

  1. You’re the polar opposite of your siblings.

  1. That being said, you learned at a young age you would rather go unnoticed than be the center of attention. (Mainly because your siblings gave you no other choice.)

  1. When people say you’re quiet or more reserved compared to your siblings, you look at them like, “It’s not that I’m quiet… I’m just quiet compared to them.”

  1. In high school you didn’t have a name, you were simply, “(Insert older siblings name) sister/brother.”

  1. You’re a lot more independent compared to your siblings. Your older sibling always demanded for help, while your younger sibling would cry if he/she didn’t receive help with something. Leaving you to fend for yourself.

  1. Your older sibling was the test dummy so when it was your turn to go to the movies alone with your friends, your parents didn’t even flinch.

  1. When it comes to your relationship with your siblings, you will forever be the odd one out.
