10 Things Only Rhode Islanders Get

No, we aren’t a part of New York, how dare you… We are the smallest state, but we’ve got some major love for what makes us who we are!

10. Del’s

Nothing signals the beginning of summer and the end of school like your local Del’s stand opening. That first sip of frozen lemonade in the sun is something we dream of as we freeze during the winter months. You can keep your pumpkin spice; give us a Del’s any day. Narragansett even makes a Del’s shandy. It’s the nectar of the gods.

9. The Ocean

The minute you cross the border into Rhode Island, you immediately smell the ocean. After all, we are “The Ocean State”! Our love for our coastline isn’t that hard to accomplish when the views are breathtaking.

8. Beach Traffic

Everyone has beach traffic but in a state that takes 45 minutes to drive across, sitting in traffic for 1 ½ hours just to get to the beach feels like eternity. You end up eating all your snacks and drinking all your Dunkin iced coffee (extra extra of course) before you even get there.

7. Day Trips

Again as the smallest state, we don’t have much land to cover. So when a trip takes more than an hour, we make sure to pack for the day. This means snacks, drinks, phone chargers and maybe even a change of clothes. It’s what we were taught to do.

6. NiRoPe

A group of three brothers, Nick Ron and Pete, who owned a furniture store and became local celebrities… I can’t even explain it. All I know is that we all had Feinstein Jr. Scholar and NiR0Pe shirts in elementary school. And if we didn’t, we wanted them.
