10 Thoughts Before Meeting the Parents for the First Time

Winter break was the perfect time for couples who met in college to go home and meet the parents of their significant others. Meeting the parents can be an extremely stressful and nerve racking thing and these are all simple and dumb thoughts each and one of us has had when preparing to meet the parents and while there.

10.What should I wear? I want to look good, but still respectable… Screw it, I don’t have parent approved clothing.

9. Do I say they have a beautiful house or is that too cliche? Also, do I go in to shake their hands or is that too formal?

8. Do I bring a gift? Are flowers too cliche?

7. I should probably ring the doorbell when I get there, but I’m nervous someone else will answer the door and then I don’t know what to say. Will I look pathetic if I text them first to tell them I’m there?

6. Am I supposed to ask them questions too? What if it there is an awkward silence, what should I say? Maybe I can ask where they work or what their spring break plans are… Also, I am feeling the urge to say the most inappropriate things right now.
