5 Reasons Why I Love Being A Scarlet Knight

1. Sports. No one can say that Rutgers University is lacking in school spirit. So many people are dedicated season ticket holders that just can’t help but absorb the atmosphere that Rutgers sports has to offer. So far this year, I believe Rutgers has surprised a lot of people and have proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten. Besides, what other school can say that they’re the birthplace of college football?

2. Fat Sandwiches. There is arguably no better munchie on this planet than a Rutgers fat sandwich. The Fat Darrell was ranked the #1 sandwich in the country by Maxim magazine and I haven’t met one person that has felt otherwise. I love my mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, fries, and bacon on a sandwich and I also love the fact that it’s just a few steps away.

3. Parties/Tailgates. What’s a college without a strong party reputation? There are countless lists that Rutgers has been on for both how great their parties are and how crazy the tailgating can get. This will forever be one of the greatest things about being a scarlet knight. We always know how to throw down and have a good time.

4. Academics. If you were accepted to Rutgers and continue to bust your ass then you should be proud of yourself because this is not an easy school. According to a survey taken a few years ago, Rutgers was ranked the #6 school in their return on investment (ahead of schools like Harvard and Princeton). It’s comforting to know that my degree from Rutgers will hold significant value once I graduate.

5. Diversity. If there’s one word to describe this school, it’s “diversity”. The student body at Rutgers reflects our country because there is no dominant race and it truly is a melting pot of so many different people to meet. It’s nice to be able to interact with people that are from different cultures and Rutgers offers that to their students. There’s also so much diversity in the environments at Rutgers. All five campuses have a different atmosphere to them. College Ave Campus is the heart of college life with a more city feel to it, while Cook Campus is an area primarily surrounded by nature. The diversity at Rutgers makes it more of a home to me and it always will.
