The hot, roasted, deep brown drink we guzzle as much as water has a sacred place in the heart of college students. The drink almost seems to capture breakfast in liquid form. Coffee is as much a part of the college lifestyle as anything else, if not more. But why do we love coffee so much? Here’s a few reasons why.
It’s Social
If you’ve ever find yourself in a coffee shop with some friends or with a large group of people you can attest to this fact. There’s something about the atmosphere and the drink itself that seems to make people easier to talk to and easier to understand.
It’s Customizable
Dark roast or light roast. Colombian or Peruvian. Cream and sugar or straight black. So many different combinations that you could go a year and never have the same cup of coffee twice. Coffee is so customizable that anyone can have their favorite combination but still like others. Anything goes.
Food Tastes Good in It and With It.
Go ahead, dip your doughnut in that coffee. Enjoy it. Tastes good doesn’t it? Now imagine that with any baked good ever. Not many pastries taste bad when combined with a small splash of coffee. You can bite your food and then take a sip or go right ahead and dip that coffee cake right in. It’s likely going to taste good regardless.
It’s Everywhere
If you are in the continental United States, you are never more than 115 miles from a McDonald’s. At the same time you probably are not more than 50 miles from a cup of coffee. If you need that brown nectar ASAP, look around you because it can be found everywhere. Gas stations, schools, restaurants, and even in vending machines you can find coffee. This helps when desperately in need of the last reason…
CAFFEINE!!!
Three midterms in four days and a couple all-nighters are in the foreseeable future? Yeah, it’s time for some coffee. Easier than getting caffeine pills and much more effective than other methods, coffee efficiently delivers caffeine to the body like no other. Millions of term papers, problem sets, dissertations, and theses would be nonexistent without the help from a small cup of brown magic.
