6 Things Growing Up in the Taylor Swift Era Taught Me (2)

3. Heartache makes you stronger.

If you’ve ever been to a Taylor Swift concert, you understand that she somehow has a way of making you feel like it’s just you and her, enjoying a coffee date together and talking about life. She makes you feel like this is the best night of her life. So each world tour concert when she told you that you were strong and that you were beautiful, you really believed her.

2. It’s your job as a woman to build up other women.

If you follow Taylor on any social media, you know that she has a close knit group of girlfriends. Upon any big events in their lives, she is always right by their side to build them up in their successes. She’s known for talking fans on Tumblr through breakups and making empowering playlists for girls that she has never met. She understands the importance of not seeing other women’s successes as competition, but as inspiration to do better in our own lives.

1. Love who you are.

We watched the transition from the very first album: we’ve seen the way that Taylor Swift went from confused teenager with an acoustic guitar to a confident woman wearing a sequins, two-pieced dress in front of 50,000 people. Not only has her sound changed, but her attitude about who she is. She fights back against tabloids and interviewers, and always reminds us that it’s okay to be unapologetically herself.
