6 Things You Should Be Doing To Be Financially Stable In College

Affording college is the hardest thing to do during the best four years of your life. Who wants to be broke when you need to pay for alcohol every weekend?? The answer to that is no one. You need to pay for tuition, room and board, meal plans, food in general, laundry, textbooks, school supplies, clothes, and other various expenses that come along with going to college. In the end, everything adds up and affording your college experience becomes hard to do without going totally broke. It can be difficult to pay for everything, but you have to figure it out somehow. Here are ways to do so:

1. Apply for scholarships: It does not matter if the scholarship is worth $100 or $10,000. Any free money you can win will help out somewhere.

2. Accept financial aid: Depending on the school you attend and your financial status, you may be given the option of financial aid from your school. TAKE IT. Yes, financial aid is a loan, but it will help start credit and it gives you help paying for tuition and room and board.

3. Apply for work study: Work study can be given to students who cannot afford tuition so the school gives them a job to earn money to put towards their tuition bill.

4. Get a job: If you do not qualify for work study, get a job on campus or off campus to have a little income that can help pay for your weekly alcohol expenses.

5. Do not use a credit card: Using a credit card seems like a good fix to pay for various things while at school, but it’s actually the equivalent to entering a dark world of debt and misery. DO NOT USE A CREDIT CARD. It will make matters worse when you get your bill and you have no money to pay for everything you charged.

6. Save money: In the long run, the only way to afford college is to save your money and not buy those $200 shoes just because you love them so much and you know they will look so cute with your dark wash skinny jeans and peplum shirt. Save your money, you will not regret it.
