7 Reasons to Not Get Into a Serious Relationship Your Freshman Year (3)

3.) The Transition: Especially in your first semester, as cliche and watered down as it sounds, the transition is difficult. It is not easy to move from a high school environment to a college one. You will face culture shock, new responsibilities, and a new type of freedom you have no idea how to handle. Add a relationship to that and you will just create more stress for you to worry about. Gather you life before you take on someone else’s.

2.) Discovering Who You Are: Your freshman year is all about finding who you’re going to be in college, and in life. Will you be an athlete? An artist? An actor? College brings about so many changes, especially to who you are. You have a chance to do life in a completely different way than you did in high school; a chance to be somebody completely different. Take your first year to find out who that person is so that when you do end up in a relationship, you don’t give that up for your significant other.

1.) FREEDOM: In relation to many of the other points above, you have so much more freedom when you are single. Freedom to find yourself, to go places, to not be held back. Don’ allow yourself to give that up in the beginning for some pretty girl or handsome guy during your freshman year. I understand the ‘what if’ and the ‘they could be the one’ statements, and I’m not saying it never happens-it is just rare. It is far more rewarding to take this time to be free; when the timing is right someone wonderful (much more wonderful than just attractive) will walk into your life and they will be worth the wait.
