A Letter To My High School Self: What I Wish I Would Have Known (3)

Create relationships with your teachers. The majority of them care and want you to be successful whether they act like they do or not. If you need help, go and get it! If you need to vent about life, talk to them! They became teachers for a reason (most of them), and a lot of times, they are happy to help you.

Right now, the future seems like this big, ambiguous idea to you that you cannot fully comprehend. You have a mixture of emotions: part of you is excited, part of you is terrified, and the biggest portion of you is puzzled. You either have no idea what to do with your life or you have it planned out precisely. When you get there, just know it is going to be an enormous culture shock. It is NOT the same as high school AT ALL. It is going to be scary. You might realize this is the place for you. You might realize you chose the wrong college and need to find another one. You might realize you need a break from the world of academia for a while to find yourself and discover your passions. Whatever you do, you just need to have the mindset that you will accomplish your goals whether you go on the track that you expected or the track that wasn’t expected. You can’t expect everything to be just rosy; it won’t be. But it is what you make of it.next
