A popular genre of music that has flourished worldwide is Electronic Dance Music (EDM). This festival scene is known for its drug use, especially ecstasy, commonly known by the street name “Molly”. Ecstasy is a drug that when taken, releases a large amount of serotonin in your brain and has a euphoric affect. It also enhances colors and makes the festival experience enjoyable which is why so many people indulge in it.
Amsterdam is now allowing each person to bring up to five tablets of ecstasy into its annual Amsterdam Dance Event. Due to the high number of ecstasy related deaths over the past couple of years, Amsterdam hopes to decrease those deaths by festival goers building up a tolerance to the drug, making for a safer festival experience.
