Best And Worst Jobs On Campus

Unfortunately most of us need a job on campus during the best 4 years of our lives, and of course some have it better off than others because of the place in which they work. Here are some ideas to either get you a job or find you a new job as well as tips on how to score this amazing job while in college.

Best jobs

1. Librarian. This depends on what school you attend. But it is one of the best jobs because you get to learn how to effectively research things and you get to do your homework at work because lets face it; there isn’t much for a librarian’s assistant (or whatever you are called) to do.

2. Campus representatives. You get paid to talk to people and you get commission. This is a beyond perfect deal, especially if you can manage to become the on campus manager. Look into places like screen printing and graphic design (Summit Graphics, University Tees, and local organizations) and talk to them about becoming an on campus rep. University Primetime even has on campus reps (Stay tuned for more).

3. Lab assistant. Why? Because it is easy. You just answer questions for things you have done in the past and you get to work with all those freshman and this allows for potential hook-ups ;)

Worst jobs

1. Anything involving food. Working with food sucks unless you are in culinary school. It is even worse when it is at your schools cafeteria or a fast food joint. The stress and the smells are most of the time unbearable and you end up hating the food when your done. However, there are perks! FREE FOOD!

2. Calling center. Most schools have a calling center on campus where students get to call the alum and ask for money. It is one of the worst jobs because you are getting paid to have people yell at you and you have to ask people that aren’t your parents for money, which is awkward.

3. Almost any internship. We say this because 8 times out of 10 you aren’t doing what you want to/expected to be doing. It is even worse when you become the person that gets everyone’s coffee or the person that has to scan things. No one wants to do that for either free or at low pay. Interns get the grunt work or they are in charge of something big with no guidance and in this case they get yelled at for doing almost everything wrong.

Tips on how to score a job

1. Have an updated resume that is NEAT. Talk to the career center at your school; they surprisingly know what they are talking about!

2. Call the place in which you applied to after 3 days of applying. This shows you are interested and they take note in that.

3. Invest in a suit. You will need this later on in life. Ladies, a blazer, nice top, and dress pants go a long way.
