8 Struggles Of Being A Female Sports Fan

“Half-tom boy, half girly-girl” is almost the perfect way to describe myself. I love to do my hair, put on red lipstick, slip on my favorite pair of heels and go out with my girl friends. However, when the Mets are on, I find those tasks daunting.

Growing up, I could not get away from sports even if I tried. Between my dad, uncles, grandparents, cousins and little brother, I was surrounded with baseball, football and basketball. Ever since I can remember, I sat in the living room with my dad watching baseball games, asking questions and cheering when he cheered. I would watch shortstop Jose Reyes to learn and improve my game on the softball field. After watching Erin Andrews, I realized I wanted sports to be my career path.

Excluding the struggles of a woman making it in the sports business, just being a fan poses a few struggles in and of itself.

8. Pre-game parties during game time.

I will not be making pre-game unless there is a large TV where we are going. Most of your girlfriends do not understand nor do they care, so looks like you are sitting alone by the TV with your back turned to the party. Hold the conversation and the shots for commercial breaks. However, the night will continue after the game. When your team wins, you celebrate. When they lose, you try to forget. Cheers!

7. “Oh, you’re a fan of ______? Alright, well, who hit the game-winning shot for them in the NCAA tournament in 1958?!”

I do not know. We were not even alive then, so why do you know? What purpose does the knowledge of that fact serve? I did not sign up for a game of trivia. Chill.next
