ICE BUCKET FRAUD: ALS FOUNDATION ADMITS THAT 73% OF DONATIONS ARE NOT USED FOR ALS RESEARCH

Not sure how valid this may be, but we saw this article all over ours newsfeed on Facebook, so whether it’s true or not, it’s definitely making a lot of noise nationally that we decided to share. Take it for what it’s worth.

According to the ECFA, a charitable watchdog, 27% of donations actually making it to the cause they are donated to is unacceptable. In fact, the ECFA won’t deem a non-profit as a reliable charity unless at least 80% of donations make it to their intended projects.

This is from January 2014… The Ice Bucket challenge was started over the summer if I recall correctly. This has little bearing on current expenditures. That doesn’t mean that it’s not true I just can’t take this as a reliable story unless we see a break down of 2014 expenses.

Those look like market average salaries for a big city. What is wrong with public education being part of your mission? Or patiant services? Sounds wonderful. Tho maybe they should say donate “for research, services and education.”

Why repeat it if you’re not sure. It is a false story and undermines an effort to get money and awareness to an underfunded and misunderstood disease. Repeating the lies are just as bad as the pathetic first story.
