When we hear the phrase “growing up”, we immediately think of the terror that comes with it: growing older. No one likes it and the idealization of never growing up thanks to our good friend Peter Pan has always been desirable to us. But growing up is necessary not only for us to become adults, but to truly begin to live our lives to the most potential. We can’t succeed and become independent without sorting out a bunch of complicated situations thrown our way. No one said it was easy, but no one also said all of that messiness wouldn’t worth all the while. It’s not about the destination after all, but the journey in how we get there; how our paths are paved in the stories we are trying to tell. And Inside Out reminds us of just that. Things like moving to a new city and relationships changing with old friends can effect us strongly when we’re young as well as when we’re older. The situations may alter, but the feelings are timeless. And Inside Out reminds us that although we encounter a lot of “firsts” as we grow up, there are some things we are never meant to grow out of.
