A Letter To My High School Self: What I Wish I Would Have Known

Dear High School Self,
In way, shape, and form, you are the same person as me. However, you have changed. Not only are you brighter and smarter, but now you are starting to become shaped into the person you always wanted to be while learning how to make your positive mark on the world. Now that you are all grown up, I wish there were some things that you would have known in high school. But, the thing is, life would not be a learning experience if we knew everything going into things; learning is all a part of growing up.

First of all, I want you to understand how much you are NOT defined by a number. Your GPA, ACT, SAT score, and miscellaneous other “numbers” that seem to define you are very important, BUT they do not shape who you are one bit. I know you feel that these scores are bound to you like glue because they certainly seem glued to your college applications that dictate your future. Long story short, these are just numbers and simply numbers. YOU are the person that defines how intelligent you are while these numbers are just a part of the road map of high school. next
