Plane Crash Kills Two Colgate Freshmen

According to ABCNews on Sunday afternoon, September 20th, 2015, an unfortunate event occurred when two 18-year-old freshmen from Colgate University died in a plane crash. Cathryn “Carey” Depuy and Ryan Adams, both from Ridgefield, Connecticut, were the only two people aboard the single-engine Cessna 150 plane that went down in the town of Eaton. The plane took off around 1:00 in the afternoon from Hamilton Municipal Airport.

Cathryn Depuy was getting her flying license at a young age, which made her admirable and looked up to. Police investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident that made Depuy’s plane crash, causing their deaths.

It was a sad day for everyone not only in Ridgefield, Connecticut, the teens’ hometown, but for everyone at Colgate University as well. Depuy’s high school cross-country coach was interviewed, and he described the bright and brilliant attitude and personality that she constantly emitted throughout her life. Her positive attitude and upbeat personality allowed for her peers and anyone she came in contact with to share in her optimism, making her very well-respected and loved in the community. Adams was also an exemplary student in high school, says the head of the school. Adams touched many people’s lives, leaving many in pain and grief. He was the vice president of the St. Luke’s Investment Club and an Eagle Scout at age 13.

Both students had very bright futures and led very respected lives; their deaths impacted many people and they will both be forever missed.

Many classes and events on the Colgate campus are being canceled or rescheduled for Monday, September 21st, 2015 in order for students to grieve and express their condolences to the lost lives of their beloved classmates. Counseling is available for all students who feel that they need it.

More information will soon be released as police officials become more aware of what caused this tragic event. There will be a vigil at Colgate University held at 7:30PM today, September 21st, 2015 to honor the lives of these two Connecticut teens.

Rest in peace Cathryn Depuy and Ryan Adams.
