It’s the first week and you walk into your classroom– immediately you give your professor a once over and judge the entire semester to come.
You create expectations as they review the syllabus, addressing assignments and policies. If you’re lucky, you get the prof who is frank and real. They tell you what they want and who they are outside the classroom.
The Impactful Prof wants you to succeed, and no that is not indicated by your grade. They understand where your stresses stem– your need for a career or even just another step in the right direction.
The class you actually decide to go to is one is which the professors use meaningful, relevant examples.
These professors change the classroom. You show up, you communicate, and you develop as a student. They open opportunities that excite you and help you own them.
They’re not afraid to set you straight when you’ve done something wrong, but they’re also not there to hold your hand.
At the end of the day, these professors are the ones that make you realize the real world isn’t so scary.. and maybe if you work hard you could end up a little like them.
