Struggles Only Big City College Students Would Understand

Attending college in a big city is an incredibly amazing experience. The world is at your fingertips, you’re in the center of the action, and there’s always something to do (besides your actual classwork, of course). However, attending an urban college isn’t all rainbows and puppies – sometimes it kinda sucks. Here are 17 struggles city students have to power through each year.

17 . It’s Hella Expensive

Not only is your tuition through the roof, but so is everything else. Restaurants, clothing stores, even the cute little markets that come to the park three times a month – everything is bumped up for the budget of a 37 year old corporate lawyer instead of a poor college student eating ramen six times a week.

16. The Campus is Weird

With real estate in the city as crazy as it is, urban campuses tend to be either wildly spread out across 8 blocks or cramped into three small buildings in a row. Whether you’re sprinting 20 minutes across busy streets or fighting your way up a staircase clearly not designed to fit a third of the student body at once for class, inter-campus travel can be a living hell.

15. Construction and Traffic Noise. ALL. THE. TIME.
There’s nothing like waking up on a lazy Sunday morning to the sweet chirping of a robin on your windowsill or the gentle whistling of a breeze from the west… I mean it, there’s nothing like that at a city campus. No matter where your school is in a city, you can guarantee there’ll be an active construction site and plenty of road rage to keep you from oversleeping. Say goodbye to peace and quiet: hello, jackhammer and tire screeching.

14. Snow? Not So Much Fun Anymore

No matter how much you loved snow as a child, there’s just nothing fun about dealing with it in the city. There’s always enough snowplows in a big city to make sure class isn’t cancelled, but too few to actually clear the sidewalks you need to get out to class. Have fun motivating yourself to get to that calculus exam in THAT weather!
