10 Struggles of Working Out in Your Dorm

If you’ve ever worked out in your dorm then you know that it can be a struggle. It’s nice to be able to workout in the comfort of your own room, but at the same time it can be a lot harder to even try working out in your room than it would be if you just went to the gym.

10. There isn’t enough space. This is the biggest issue when it comes to working out in your room. You know that you need a lot of space to move if you want to get the most out of your workout and you also need to be able to stretch your muscles. If you don’t have enough room to do this then you could end up compromising your form which could only do more harm than good. You’re also limited in the types of workouts you can do because some may require a lot more space than others.

9. It gets hot very quickly. While it is a good thing to sweat while you’re working out, sometimes it gets too hot too quickly in your room. It could only be five minutes into your workout, but you could already be sweating buckets. Then you could get uncomfortable and just decide to call it quits a little too early.

8. You’re tempted to just sit on your bed/chair. Working out in your room means that you are only a few steps away from your bed at all times. If you work out regularly then you know that you’re supposed to keep moving, but sometimes that bed or chair just looks too comfortable to pass up. You also know that if you sit down you’re probably not going to get back up for a while and that could mean ending your workout sooner than you planned.

7. You annoy the people below you. No matter how hard you try you’re probably going to annoy the people that live below you. If you’re using weights then every time you put the weights back on the floor they make a noise. You probably also make tons of noise every time you jump. You may not care about how much noise you’re making (let’s face it, you gotta do what you gotta do) but if it were the person above you doing it you know that you’d get annoyed.

6. You’re more likely to take breaks. It’s a lot easier to find excuses to take breaks while working out in your room. For one thing if you get tired you can easily just stop for a “quick break” and end up turning on the TV or going on your laptop. You can also stop to answer a text message and end up taking a break that’s way longer than you expected because you got comfortable leaning against your bed or desk.
