So thebestschools.org came up with a list of the top colleges by state. Here is what they said for how they came to their conclusions:
“Our criteria for putting a school on this list include the reputation of the school and its faculty, its dedication to a broad liberal arts education, its accreditation, and its overall academic caliber compared to other institutions of the same type within the same state.”
Here’s the list (in no particular order). COMMENT below on this article if you think your college deserved to be mentioned!

Really we’re going to put UVermont over Middlebury? Might as well put in UNH over Dartmouth.
“Top 50 colleges…”
Lists 1 college…
I agree with the comment below. Also, Bates, Bowdoin and Colby own University of Maine. And Reed college in Oregon. Maybe the author was going for the best reputation across the country apposed to best academically and career-wise?
I find it hard to believe Virginia Tech is ranked #1 in the US for students love their schools, but didn’t make this list!
UMaine over Bowdoin (#4 liberal arts school in the country) hm.…
So Alabama has the best college in the country? Wow, the bar has been set low.
It’s listed alphabetically by state…but I must be stupid since I go to college in Alabama.
Anybody else notice it’s almost in perfect alphabetical order by state? As much as I love that Auburn’s number 1 I don’t think they really ranked them…
