Most colleges have sports, and most sports have a team, and most teams have players that play on that team (obviously). Being a student athlete can be hard and stressful at times, but its also a lot of fun and has many pros! And for all your BMS (Blue Mountain State Lovers) out there… You’ll appreciate these gifs and pictures (they go perfectly with this topic) And if you have no idea what BMS is, I recommend you watch it on Netflix!! (specifically before the movie comes out) Party at the Goat House!
20. Study Halls- Your coach or team will come up with days to have a study hall where everyone has to sit in a room together and work on their homework or study, that way you’re not procrastinating and can get your work done!
19. Free Food- Getting free meals before or after games and having snacks on the bus rides are always a plus for hungry college athletes! Also, when you’re stuck at school for pre-season, spring or winter break, those free Subway and Panera gift cards definitely help!
18. Free Clothes- You’re given school clothes that represent the school and the sport you play; I mean, who doesn’t need an extra pair of baggy sweatpants?
17. Free Gear or Equipment- Depending on the sport you play, you may be given free goggles, bats, sticks, mouth guards, etc., that way you don’t have to spend your own money (you’re already a broke college student anyways)!
16. Missing Classes- Though this is a con as well, you might be able to get out of the class you hate on game day!
15. Traveling- You get to travel to different states, and even do overnights and explore places you would never normally go! While also being able to play the sport you love, and avoid bad weather back home.
14. Meeting New People- Your team is full of different types of people, all different majors and personalities. Take advantage of getting to know them!
13. Parties- A lot of teams usually have their own “house.” Like, “lax house” or “baseball house,” and after a big win there always is a party to celebrate a team’s big win!
12. Memories- You will have so many memories from your four years of playing in college: from that big win you had last year, or who fell down the stairs of the bus, the jokes, and all the laughs you share.
11. Playing the Sport you Love- You get to continue the sport you love into college (simple as that)!
10. A Second Family- Your team will always be there for you, and you will eventually get really close with them and consider them a second family who will always be there for you.
9. “Famous”- I mean, your face is on the website of your school’s athletic section with all your stats; that’s pretty cool!
8. The Rules of Your Game- Some rules are different than high school, so they’ll be a little more lenient with the rules of the game in college, or they’ll change.
7. Staying In Shape- You always have team lifts, practices, or runs so there is no excuse at all that you can’t be in shape!
6. Full Time Support- Your coach, team, friends, family, and teachers will be there for you no matter what. Whether you need two goals to beat a record, need to cry on someones shoulder, or need tutoring! You pretty much have help in every department of your life.
5. Given Money- When you go on away games, or sometimes meets, you’re given a little extra spending money.
4. Academic Motivation- Athletes must have a certain GPA in order to play, so meeting that GPA will be easier if you are forced to meet it in order to play.
3. Easier To Socialize- Depending on your school, a lot of the sport teams are really close, which gives you the opportunity to meet different kids from all over! It’s a lot easier to make new friends.
2. Sleep Schedule- Managing your time is a big thing, so having a normal sleep schedule will help you feel refreshed and ready to go the next day.
1. Playing All Year Round- Some schools offer a fall ball, spring ball, or have practices all year round, which is awesome because you can get into a lot of the habits you will have to be in during season.
