You’re not afraid of being in relationships, you just repeat the saying “I don’t want to get tied down at such a young age” like a broken record player. Secretly though you have a fully hate relationship with commitment, there is no love. You have tried over and over but it seems that not even your celebrity crush can stop the fear. If you’re not completely sure, here are five telltale signs you’re a commitment-phobe.

 

5. You cringe at the idea of DTR-

At a certain point it is natural for people to want to define a relationship. If you dodge any question like the plague that starts with “What are we?”, you may not like commitment. By the way no, walking your goldfish is not a good excuse.

4. You convince yourself you don’t have feelings-

Your hookup started out casual, no strings attached, but now there is this devil creeping in called feelings. If you have to push those feelings away at every turn, you’re avoiding commitment. Let the feelings in, relationships are normal!

3. Constant excuses-

Every time your “casual friend” brings up dating, you have 101 excuses as to why it can never happen. The reasons are completely crap too. Saying you don’t want a relationship in the summer is not a real reason that you have to stay single.

2. All your relationships have been short-

If the longest relationship you have had is with a goldfish, you have serious commitment issues. Getting in a relationship doesn’t mean you have to get married tomorrow. Get a bae, get some experience, and then if it doesn’t work, move on. Don’t stop something because you assume it won’t work out.

The key characteristic of a commitment-phobe is sabotaging yourself before you even get into a relationship. The worst part is you probably don’t even know you’re doing it. You have found a person who you really like and have gotten over all your other commitment-phobe traits. Shortly after though, you stop texting them because you don’t want to “bother them” and question if they even like you back. You start to push them slowly away because you don’t think it’s real. Suppress your issues because letting one person in will be okay!
