Death on Le Moyne College Campus

As many of you may know, a terrible thing happened on the Le Moyne College campus on September 27th, 2015. As joggers were jogging through the woods behind the athletic buildings near Thompson Road and Alden Ave, they happened upon something that no one ever wants to experience. A dead body that seemed to be burned was discovered at 11:30am.

Dewitt police investigators arrived on the scene around 12:15pm that afternoon and concluded that the body definitely seemed to have been set on fire. Because of the damage done by the fire to the body, the joggers questioned if it was even human remains to begin with. The body was so severely damaged that, at first, the police investigators could not conclude the age, race, or even gender of the dead person.

A ceremony was held in the Le Moyne Chapel on September 27th at 7:00 to pray for the lost life. All of the students, myself included, were feeling extremely frightened, anxious, and sad upon getting the e-mail. The area directors and resident advisors came door-to-door to all of the rooms on campus to make sure that everyone’s roommates had been accounted for.

On September 28th, 2015, more information about this mysterious death was released to Le Moyne College and the media. The Dewitt police state that the dead body found in the woods was the result of a suicide. Because it was a case of suicide, the victim’s name will not be released. All we know right now is that it was a woman who had struggled with severe depression, and she was caught on surveillance purchasing a lighter, a gas can, and a gallon of fuel from a nearby gas station. It was there in the woods on campus that this woman took her own life by setting herself on fire.

There has been no documented cause of death recorded by the medical examiner thus far.
