Going into college, you may have a bias about Greek life. Whether you think it is amazing or exclusive, you should rush no matter what! If you think it’s amazing, you probably got that opinion from either seeing a movie, like Sydney White, or from hearing someone tell you about their experience of being in Greek life. If you think it’s not for you, it may be because you have seen a different movie or heard a horror story about hazing. Regardless of your opinion going into college, no matter what college you go to, YOU SHOULD ABSOLUTELY RUSH!
First of all, rushing is not a commitment to joining, it’s just a chance to experience something new and meet some amazing people. You may find an organization that you love or you may find that it’s not for you, but you should find that out from having your own experiences and not taking other peoples’ word for it. Some people find Greek life an integral part of their college career, while others just don’t find the same appeal. But as someone told me about rushing, everyone tends to end up where they belong. You may be overjoyed about getting into a sorority and then find it’s not for you, or be crushed about not getting into a sorority. Either way, it’s a once in a lifetime experience that you shouldn’t let anything dissuade you from having. So when you rush, be it first semester, sophomore year, or during fake break like at Elon University, good luck, be yourself, and just have fun with it.
