University of Alabama fraternity members arrested for hazing

Five University of Alabama students, all members of the school’s Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, were arrested and jailed Wednesday on hazing charges.

The arrests came following a “thorough joint investigation” by University of Alabama Police Department and the UA Office of Student Conduct, it said.

A report from AL.com says the fraternity brothers allegedly made pledges “stand in buckets of ice and salt, a combination which led to burns on the pledges’ feet.”

“The University of Alabama will not tolerate hazing and takes allegations and incidents of hazing very seriously,” Tim Hebson, dean of students, said in the statement. “Students who are the victims of, or who become aware of, hazing incidents are strongly encouraged to bring these incidents to our attention.”
