10 People We All Hate At The College Gym

Listen up all of you, from the muscle heads to the athletically challenged, these are all the reasons we roll our eyes at you in the gym.

1.If you drop your weights, we hate you.

Okay so I understand you are lifting heavy shit, good for you, but is it really necessary to throw them on the floor after your set? I think not. Just place them down a little softer and avoid the annoying banging noise.

2. If you stand in a group around one piece of equipment, we hate you.

Both girls and guys like going to the gym with friends, which is just great, but is it necessary to stand around one machine or bench while everyone take turns? Like can’t some of you go do something else? There are a lot of options in the gym, but I don’t think standing around laughing with your buds is one.

A variation of this is if you are in a relationship and workout with your significant other. This also usually involves a lot of standing around. You don’t need to watch each other, go do your own thing and you can see each other after. And please, for the love of all things holy, DO NOT kiss while you two are working out! No one wants to see your gross sweaty kisses.

3. If you wear a ridiculous outfit to the gym, we hate you.

I can admit that girls are the main offenders of this in the gym. Wearing just skimpy spandex and a tummy bearing top (or even worse, just a sports bra) will certainly get you attention in the gym. I’m just saying that if your point for being at the gym is to get attention for your outfit, then you are doing it wrong. You should be at the gym to get sweaty and gross, not to get a date.

4. To go along with my last point, if you don’t get sweaty at the gym, we hate you.

The point of the gym is to workout, so you better be there to actually work! If you aren’t pushing yourself to get at least a little sweaty then you mine as well go back to your dorm and cook up some ramen. Get over the embarrassment of looking sweaty and embrace how good you will feel after.

5. If you flex or check yourself out in the mirror, we hate you.

I know you want to see that immediate progress and see results of that last chest press, but there is nothing weirder than standing in front of the whole gym and looking at yourself in the mirror. Don’t flex, don’t suck it in, just don’t even do it. If you can be subtle about it than fine, but you look dumb and arrogant checking yourself out mid workout. Save that for when your alone.

6. If you just do cardio, we hate you.

Nothing wrong with some cardio, but if that’s all you are doing at the gym you are not really getting a well rounded workout. Research shows that lifting weights is much better for burning calories and building muscle than just cardio. I know it can be hard to know what to do at times, but just google some ideas and incorporate them.

7. If you skip leg day, we hate you.

As a girl, I know leg day is more important to us than to you guys, but don’t skip it! I’m sorry but guys with a nice upper body who have skinny legs are not cute. Put a little work in down there! You will like the results and so will the ladies. We like a cute butt as much as you do.

8. If you do a lot of grunting, yelling, and moaning, we hate you.

Sometimes the occasional noise sneaks out, but if you are grunting with every lift or squat then there is a problem. It is just awkward. This is the gym not sex, so just try and quiet down.

9. If you creep at the gym, we hate you.

Girls and guys are guilty of doing this, even I am guilty. Staring at the total hottie from across the gym is not okay. It’s hard to prevent, I know, but the gym has to be the worse place to try to pick someone up. If you see someone you’re interested at the gym, just wait till later to make a move. As a girl, there’s nothing worse when someone is staring at you while you squat, or even worse if they come hit on you. We are flattered but not a good time boys.

10. If you are judgmental at the gym, we hate you.

Now that I have judged all these people at the gym, my last point is to not do that. Yup, I’m being a hypocrite. We all have different goals at the gym. We are all different fitness levels. Just because someone bigger than you is struggling to jog or someone skinny can’t lift as much doesn’t give you any right to think you’re better. People do annoying and unnecessary things at the gym, but most of us are there trying to better ourselves, so why judge that?
