10 Reasons Why You Love and Why You Hate Having a Little Sister

If you’re anything like my little sister and I, you’d fight with her and fight for her every day of the week. You scream and you fight and you cry because you hate her, but the next day you’re singing in the car and laughing together like nothing had ever happened. It’s a rollercoaster, being the older sister, but there are things that you’ve come to love, and inevitably, things that you’ve come to totally hate.

10. Your closet isn’t really your closet.

How many times have you gone screaming into your sister’s room screaming, “WHERE IS MY SWEATER? DID YOU TAKE MY SWEATER?” If the answer is under 100, you’re one of the lucky ones. You want to punch her when you can’t find the new pair of jeans that you just bought, but you’re happy she’s there when you can’t find a cardigan that matches your outfit and her closet has ten.

9. She thinks she’s more mature than she is.

Sometimes you’re fighting with your little sister, and you want to do nothing more than take her by the shoulders and tell her, “listen, I know more about life than you, and you are completely wrong.” She probably won’t listen to you, because no little sister in the history of little sisters takes orders from her older sister. On the bright side, you realize that she’s got a good head on her shoulders, and it’s probably something that she gets from you.

8. You can vent about your family drama.

Some of the better things in life are driving home with your little sister after a family party, and laughing about all the things you couldn’t say out loud while you were there. She understands that the sentence, “grandma was being a bitch today,” isn’t really harsh, it’s just that grandma really was being a bitch that day. She’s one of the only people that gets the inside jokes about certain family members, and it’s another reminder that even when you hate her, you two have a bond that no one else would understand.

7. You’ll kill for her.

It doesn’t matter whether or not she was wrong: all you know is, she came home crying and now there’s going to be hell to pay. Whether it was a bitchy girl or an ex-boyfriend, you’ve already taken her side way before she’s even explained the story. It’s fine if you’re the one that called her a dumb bitch, but if someone else saying it is a whole other story.

6. You’re so alike that it’s kinda scary.

Most of the time, having the same interests as your little sister is more of a blessing than a curse. Usually, it makes you easier to relate to each other. Then again, when the two of you are equally stubborn and headstrong, it makes things a little more complicated.
