The 11 Stages of Pulling an All-Nighter for That Paper You Ignored

New semester, new me! Every time that new class schedule arrives, you promise yourself that things will be different; this semester, you’ll get all your work done well ahead of time so you can just relax when those big due dates roll along.

And, of course, you never follow through.

With friends, clubs, other classes, and our good friend Netflix, it seems impossible to fit in that huge project those the final weeks before it’s due! As the night before the deadline arrives, you know you’ll just have to bang it out in one big session. But that session never really goes according to plan, and you become trapped in the 11 stages of pulling an all-nighter:

Unrealistic Optimism

All right, so you’ve been procrastinating on that big project for weeks and it’s due tomorrow morning. But why stress? You can crank out that bad boy in no time. You grab a cup of coffee, pull out your earphones, and open up Word. Time to kick some ass!
 
Getting Easily Distracted
You really need a break. You’ve already been working on this paper for MINUTES. Font size? Set. Double-spaced? You know it. Paper title? Perfection. After all this work, you owe yourself a break! Food videos on Facebook, here you come…
