15 Things Your Resident Assistant Says And What They Actually Mean

The college resident assistant is truly an interesting character.  You’re bound to come across one or two during your time, which means you’ll become well acquainted with their always chipper personality, near suffocating levels of friendship, and also the rules they hate to enforce.

Resident assistants go through a fair amount of training to make sure they’re able to handle any situation in the most amiable way possible.  That’s why sometimes it can be hard to tell what they really mean when they say something to you.  Fear not, though, because here’s a handy guide to help you decipher your R.A.’s words.

15. “I’m here if you ever need anything.”

What it means: “I’m required to say that.”

14. “My door is always open.”

What it means: “My door is open except when I’m sleeping, studying, having sex, or just don’t want to be bothered.”

13. “We’re all adults here.”

What it means: “Maybe I can shame you all into following the rules.”

12. “Come on, guys…”

What it means: “This is the third time someone has shit in the shower this semester, and I’m ready to light you disgusting losers on fire.”

11. “I’d really love to get to know you better.”

What it means: “You don’t seem to have a lot of friends and I’m worried for everybody’s safety if I don’t at least try.”
