20 Incredibly Difficult Lessons We All Learn In College (2)

14. Occasionally being miserable is just part of life.

Everyone goes through hard times.  Everyone feels depressed.  Everybody experiences doubt.  Sometimes when you feel this way, all you can do is reassure yourself that it’s normal and you’ll get through it.

13. You can’t always get what you want.

Now here’s a cliché that’s actually true.

12. You often have to get along with people you just can’t stand.

Conflict management and building good communication skills are necessary, but no matter how good you are at these things, you’ll still come into contact with people you just don’t get along with.  Too bad.  You still have to work with them anyway.

11. Most of the time, you don’t get do-overs in life.

Everyone makes mistakes.  If you’re lucky, most of them don’t have terrible consequences.  But if you do something insanely stupid, like drive while intoxicated and then get pulled over, or worse, hurt someone else…there’s no do-over for that.  You’ll have to live with what happens.

10. Stuff you do now could affect you for a very long time.

In addition to not getting do-overs, you need to be aware that the decisions you’re making now could hang around for years and years.  The loans you’re taking out will be a part of your life for quite a while, and the reputation you make for yourself with work and relationships will hang around as well.
