10. The constant wonder of where people are going to and coming from.
Big cities are associated with high class and cool jobs. So, when I see someone walking fast in nice clothes, I always wonder where they are going. In a small town, people are most likely driving to the local gas station or maybe the convenience store. There is no mystery.
9. Also, wondering how much each cute apartment you see costs.
I passed this loft apartment in Philadelphia this past weekend, and I admired it for a good five minutes until the fleeting thought of the price tag crossed my mind. I walked away, never looking back. It is like falling in love with a taken man; it is only going to hurt.
8. How does one transport their groceries?
I am not sure why this is always a question I have. However, us rural folk grow and purchase our food and transport them in a car. How do you city people get all the snacks you want in your apartment efficiently without waking up with sore arms the next day? Hmmm?
7. Holy $$$$$$
There is a reason people associate big cities with fancy jobs. Visiting a big city on a college budget is detrimental to what you can spend in the weeks to come. Everything costs approximately a jillion dollars, and, well, I do not have a jillion dollars.
6. I guess I do not need to smile at everyone I pass on the street.
I have a habit of smiling at everyone I see on campus and at home because, at one point or another, I have met them or will meet them. In cities, people may construe my no-tooth smile as a menacing look, making them walk a little bit faster.
5. Tinted windows… HAS to be a famous person!
A nice car with tinted windows is a surefire sign of a success, right?
4. Oh, no. I got the door. Thank you.
It would have taken three seconds out of your day to hold the door for me as I walked in, but slamming it in my face works, too.
3. I am going to need a little bit more green in this scenery.
Walking down the street in New York City once, I realized the only grass I saw in 24 hours was growing through the cracks in the sidewalk. After I had that realization, I get unreasonably excited when I see a slice of nature.
2. I could see myself living here…
1. … With steady income and a less naive sense of the world.
Seeing women in their twenties hailing a cab in their business clothes gets me all excited inside. Being lost in a big city with tons of opportunities is not the worst thing in the world. I just have to take self-defense classes first.
