Dorm Tips to Help You on Move In Day (2)

3. Coordinate with your roommate(s)

The last thing you want is to show up in your room with your expensive mini fridge and microwave combo, and your roommate already has theirs set up. Your college will often give you your roommate’s email. Take this opportunity and connect with them before you move in. That way, it saves you the awkwardness of meeting on move in day, and will form your bond early.

2. Don’t get dressed up

You might be thinking about making the best first impression, and spend an hour or more on your appearance. After hours of lugging boxes and setting up in your hot room, you’ll regret it. Wake up and move in with a fresh face, accept the sweating and stress you will encounter, and clean up after all of the hard work is done. That way, by the time you meet everyone, you look great and your room will too!

1. Relax and have fun!

This is the start of your new life on campus! Don’t stress out too much. Take a lot of pictures, hug your family, and put little pieces of home around your room. That way, you won’t get too homesick, and will just enjoy your first day on campus.
