“The traffic violation involved a headlight issue as well as the weather issue, improper equipment in the rain,” says Mack.
During a search of the mini-van investigators discovered a compartment behind the front seats. Inside, two duffel bags filled with cocaine. Jose Solis and Maricela Gonzalez arrested and charged with trafficking although Sheriff Mack believes there are more arrests to be made. “This is not a rookie operation. It’s definitely tied into a major operation.”
But at least for now, a victory for the good guys. “We’re always asked, are we winning the war on drugs,” says Mack. “Well we did last night.”
Investigators say the couple arrested may have been drug mules that were given about three thousand dollars to drive the van and the drugs from Houston, Texas to another location and leave it there.
