10 Signs You Went To North Carolina State University

10 Signs you went to North Carolina State University:

Raleigh, North Carolina. The Oak City. Home to our state capital, craft beer, local breweries, and the state fair. Most importantly, it is home to North Carolina State University (N.C State). To those who are attending or attended this magical place where country life meets city living, let’s take a look at some undeniably N.C State characteristics.

10. You live by: Never Give Up, Don’t Ever Give Up:

I’ll start the article with one of the most serious and loved aspects of being an N.C State student or alum. Most sporting fans, especially those who follow collegiate basketball, can identify Jim Valvano and his lasting impact and legacy on the sporting world- specifically in regards to his iconic 1993 ESPY speech where he challenged us to “laugh, think, and cry” daily. Not only did Valvano lead N.C State to one of two national championships (we cherish these beautiful championships dearly as they are too few of them round here), but his charismatic disposition in life and philanthropic heart was nothing short of contagious. As State students and alum, we adore Jimmy V and the Jimmy V foundation. We always have, always will.

9. You’ve felt violated (physically, mentally, or sexually) by the UT Foam Party:

I’ll admit, I lived in University Towers my freshman year. It’s a private dorm located on campus. Co-Ed, it is known for housing the upcoming Greek Life community in their early college years (along with it’s faulty elevators and memorable fire alarms). Each year, UT hosts a foam party straight from the Animal House set. Open to the entire campus (attendees must be a “guest” of resident). DJs provide rage type music well into the morning hours and there typically is no sign of food of security- a monumental mistake. Hundreds of inebriated, horny, and socially awkward attendees unknowingly submerge themselves into the thousands of gallons of foam- complete with STDS, urine, and most likely vomit. It truly is a spectacle to see, especially the next morning. Beer cans, clothing, toilet paper, beach towels, glow sticks, and most notably people’s dignity line the area around the building.

8. This feeling is common when the North Carolina State Fair comes to town:

N.C State’s campus is located in the heart of Raleigh. Positioned a few miles from downtown, amidst residential and commercial areas and right off major highways, the fair grounds are literally on our campus. So when the State Fair comes to town each October, madness ensues. Where there is fried food (if you can even call some of the concoctions food), an abundance of livestock, free firework shows, and the enjoyable rides and games- there is bound to be an influx of “interesting” people and their “interesting” driving/parking abilities. Don’t plan on driving on roads within a 3 mile radius of the fair grounds. Roads go from free flowing, to traffic, to straight parking lot status. Hell, even our athletic department leaves town during this portion of the football season. You’d be smart to do the same.
