NC State Bans Fraternities From Drinking Alcohol, Even Those That Are 21

NC State has banned alcohol from Fraternity events, but why?

Here’s what happened according to NBCNews.com :

North Carolina State University says it is temporarily banning alcohol at social events for most fraternities after two chapters were suspended, including one in light of drug and sexual assault allegations.

Separately, a frat was suspended after an apparent pledge book surfaced containing sexist and racially insensitive comments.

NC state spokesman Fred Hartman said Friday the alcohol ban applies only to fraternities that are part of the Interfraternity Council. Historically black fraternities maintain a separate council and are not affected.

A news release says the alcohol ban is in “response to national issues and recent allegations of inappropriate behaviors.”

Pi Kappa Phi has suspended its chapter at the school while it investigates the book. Alpha Tau Omega suspended its chapter after drug and sex assault allegations.
