New Tool To Predict Where You Should Apply

“Even four years ago, these tools didn’t really exist where you could go and find your statistical odds of being accepted to this school,” says Matt Pittinsky, co-founder of  Blackboard education management system and CEO of Parchment, the site that will be offering a new college matching tool.

Pittinsky says that the service will be similar to Netflix: you enter some information (like GPA, SAT scores, extracurriculars, etc.) and Parchment will provide you with not only colleges that match your ability and interests but also schools that you are likely to get in to. Universities have had tools like this for years in order to attract the right students, but this should even the playing field a bit more. Additionally, it should save students money so they don’t have to apply to 10s of colleges to just get in to one. Parchment wants to make it clear which schools you have a statistical probability of getting in to, in order to avoid all of the applications.

Most admissions counselors are championing the software because it will take much work off of the shoulders of high school guidance counselors, and it will connect students with colleges they may otherwise have never considered.
