Nine years ago, Steve and Jeri Wakefield had an elaborate tree house built in Texas for their two grandsons.
They hired architect James Curvan to design the special multi-level playhouse, complete with a pitched roof, suspension bridge, decks, and a zip line. Steel posts support the structure, to prevent harming the giant pecan tree that appears to grow through it.
Curvan built the staircase with four landings so the children would feel safe and secure.
A floating nest is connected to the tree house by a suspension bridge. The tree next to it has a small lookout.
The back door opens out to a wide deck with child-sized patio furniture.
The main floor has a kitchen, hearth, seating, storage, spaces for naps, and a rainbow stained glass window.

After zip lining down, children can climb up back up the rope ladder.
A cozy nook with window seat is the perfect place to read a book.
An air conditioner was installed below the tree house to keep the it cool during hot Texas summers.
There’s a table and chairs, a play kitchen, a working refrigerator, and an antique telephone.

For Christmas every year, the Wakefields decorate the tree house with 5,600 individual white and green lights.
Even the suspension bridge is decorated.
