10 Homecoming Concerts You Wish Your School Had

Most of the time, we can’t stand our school. From crappy food to awkward dorms to overpriced books, the school that we (sadly) chose to go to often gets on our nerves. However, we hold a little hope every year for the homecoming concert. Most of us pay a crazy amount of money to attend our school, so the least we deserve is an awesome performer, right? Well, here’s 10 homecoming concerts where the school really delivered on that promise. They make the long walk across campus and weird professors totally worth it!

1. Ke$ha – University of Pittsburgh – 2011

kesha - pitt homecoming 2011

Whether you like her music or not, you have to admit that Ke$ha knows how to party. So when Pitt booked her to perform for their homecoming show, the students went wild. Needless to say, everyone was wasted and covered in glitter, especially Ke$ha herself.

2. T-Pain – Florida Atlantic University – 2014

Set to play at FAU a few days before Halloween, T-Pain may not buy the school’s broke students any “dranks”, but he’ll surely put on a great show. As if he weren’t enough, Jay Sean will also open for the hip-hop legend!

3. Avicii – Cornell University – 2012

The bigger the school, the bigger the budget. That’s the only way to explain how Cornell booked Avicii to include the prestigious school as a part of his 2012 tour. Judging by the crowd in the above picture, it was money well spent!

4. Chance The Rapper – Indiana University of Pennsylvania – 2014

Chance The Rapper may not be a household name like T-Pain, but he’s sure made a splash in the hip-hop community. His shows are (in)famous for his earth-shattering bass and his ability to really hype his crowd into madness. All this plus thousands of drunk college kids will surely make this a concert for the ages.

5. Tiesto – Florida International University – 2014

Is it mere coincidence that Tiesto released a song called Wasted right before planning to play for a college? I think not.

6. Childish Gambino – Penn State – 2013

childish gambino - penn state homecoming 2013

A geeky performer for a smart school? Perfect! Actor, comedian, and rapper Childish Gambino rocked Penn State’s homecoming last year, serving as one of the school’s first rap performers. He adorned his famous short shorts, displaying his knees loud and proud, and free-styled the house down!

7. Iggy Azalea – University of Minnesota – 2014

Seems like Iggy has really made a name for herself since the music newcomer has landed a headlining gig in the University of Minnesota’s homecoming events. It’s the most exciting thing to happen in Minnesota since…well, probably since it became a state!

8. Wiz Khalifa – Kennesaw State University – 2014

Famous Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifia will bring his black and yellow pride to KSU, who also sports black and yellow as their official colors. Who knew Steelers and Owls would go together so well?

9. 2 Chainz and Kanye West – Pace University – 2012

It was exciting enough to have Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz perform his hit album at Pace University in New York since the small school doesn’t have the biggest budget. But when Kanye West joined him on stage out of nowhere, the students definitely got more than they bargained for.

10. Shawn and Marlon Wayans – Grand Valley State University – 2014

Since the early 90s, the Wayans family has been making us pee ourselves from laughter with comedies like White Chicks and Scary Movie. Later this month, the lucky students at GVSU get to witness Shawn and Marlon’s hilarity live and “in living color.”
