10 Reasons Disney Channel Isn’t What It Used to Be

Disney Channel played a pretty large role in a lot of our childhoods. There were tons of great and entertaining TV shows and movies to watch, but there was also just something about the channel that would make us want to watch it all day long. If you were like me you probably even just left your TV on Disney Channel so anytime you turned it on it was automatically ready to go. But like all things in the world, Disney Channel has changed and unfortunately it’s just not what it used to be when we were kids.

10. Our childhood fantasy of drawing the Disney Channel logo has come to an end. As kids we’ve all probably practiced making the Disney Channel logo in our mirror. A lot of us probably even hoped that one day we would be able to make the logo with the sparkles and glow and not just have to use our imagination. But sadly, Disney Channel has changed their logo so the days of drawing the famous logo are over. You_re_watching_disney_channel_gif_sets_by_shidolionheart-d4gfqfu

9. The shows don’t have as much meaning. In 2011 Disney had to pull an episode of Shake It Up! off the air because it made a remark about eating disorders that former Disney Channel star Demi Lovato found offensive and distasteful. Back in our day, however, Disney Channel was all about body positivity, embracing who you are, and it had a ton more life lessons! That’s So Raven for example had a lot of messages within the show that went over our heads as kids, but looking back on it we can realize just how amazing this show really was.

8. There aren’t as many animated shows. When we were growing up and watching Disney Channel we had tons of animated shows like The Proud Family, American Dragon Jake Long, Kim Possible, Lilo & Stitch: the Series, Dave the Barbarian, The Emperor’s New School, etc. In recent years the only animated shows Disney Channel has had were Phineas and Ferb (2007 – 2015), Fish Hooks (2010-2014), Gravity Falls (2012 – present; moved to Disney XD in 2014), and a new show called Mickey Mouse (2013 – present). Disney is kind of known for their animation so to not see animated shows on Disney Channel is kind of a bummer.

7. The Disney Channel Original Movies aren’t the same either. Just like the TV shows, the movies on Disney Channel nowadays jut aren’t the same as they used to be. It could be due to the changing times or it could be just because we’re partial to the old movies that we grew up with, but either way there’s just something about the movies that is a noticeable difference compared to the past. Cadet Kelly taught us to be open to new ideas, but to always be true to ourselves. Gotta Kick it Up! taught us what it means to be part of a team and that anything is possible when you set your mind to it. The movies nowadays are still entertaining and some still have life lessons, but they just aren’t the same as the ones when we were younger. We may not be able to pinpoint exactly what’s changed, but something has and we can just sense it.

6. They got rid of the Disney Channel Games. Growing up the Disney Channel Games was one of the best parts of summer. If we didn’t want to be part of Disney Channel beforehand, then we definitely wanted to be on it just to participate in the Disney Channel Games. It was always extremely entertaining to watch your favorite stars compete against each other and it also encouraged a lot of kids to go outside and be active.
