Even if they were in the wrong, you should still offer them words of encouragement and help them figure out what to do from this point on instead of telling them what they should’ve done differently.

5. Instead of offering encouragement, you just tell them what to do. You want your friend to get over the situation immediately because you don’t understand what the big deal is, but for them that’s just not possible. You may think you’re helping them by telling them to get over it or by telling them what actions they should take, but sometimes they just want someone to tell them things will be okay. You’re their friend, not their parent.
