10 Struggles of Working Out in Your Dorm (2)

5. You can only do so certain things. You could easily just bring your own weights and other small equipment, but it’s the bigger equipment that you won’t have access to. If you’re trying to build muscle then this could really be a problem because working out in your room means you’re probably doing workouts that all use just your body weight. You may still build muscle using just your body weight, but it also might take longer to get the progress you’re hoping for.

4. You get distracted easily. When you’re at the gym you’re kind of “in the zone” so all you’re focusing on is working out because that’s what the people around you are doing. When you’re in your room, however, it’s a lot easier to get distracted by your phone or laptop and break that concentration in order to do something else. You could also be thinking about other things, like how much laundry you have to do, and end up cutting back on the amount of effort you’re putting in.

3. You might not be getting the most of your workout. Sometimes working out in your room can affect your mentality. You might not be putting in as much effort as you would at the gym or it maybe your form is off off due to the lack of space. Whatever it is that’s the problem, you could be affecting your overall progress.

2. You’re stuck staring at the same things. You don’t go to the gym for the scenery, but sometimes it’s nice to people watch while you workout. You could easily just turn on a TV in your room, but sometimes watching other people workout acts as a mental booster for you.

1. You can’t really workout with a friend. Considering there’s a limited amount of space in your room it’s a lot harder to try and workout out with a friend. While some people choose to workout alone, sometimes it’s nice because you can motivate and encourage one another and it’s been proven that working out with a friend can help you a lot in the long run.
