10 Things You Should Stop Wasting Your Meal Points On (2)

5. Sushi At Hofstra University six pieces of a California roll can cost about $8, but you could easily get the same thing for $4.50 by ordering from a sushi restaurant via GrubHub. You may not want to buy it from GrubHub when you have meal points to use, but the price difference might be worth it.

4. Drunk food When you’re headed back to your dorm from a fun night out you probably always make a decision to get food on your way back. You know you don’t need that slice of pizza, it just sounds really, really good. So you follow your hearts desires and buy the biggest and best slice you can see. But then you realize later on that you’re running low and that one slice means you can’t buy dinner the next day. Whoops.

3. Stuff from your campus convenience store If you have a convenience store on campus, like Dutch Treats at Hofstra, then you can probably buy things other than food (i.e. shampoo, paper plates, condoms, medicine, etc.) with your meal points. If you really need that stuff, it’s probably smarter to just get them all from Target or any other store because A) it’s cheaper and B) there’s a bigger variety. They’re called “meal points” for a reason.

2. Water bottles Invest in a reusable water bottle!! The easiest way to save tons of money this semester is to stop buying a water bottle every single time you go to the cafeteria. For one thing it’ll save you money and for another it’ll save the environment (and it’ll prevent people from throwing them at Justin Bieber).

1. What do you mean “wasting”? You know exactly how much money you could be saving by not buying this or that, but you just really don’t care. You’d much rather buy all the food your heart desires then deny yourself the joy of eating your favorite snack. As my sorority sister, Kelly, has said, “money spent on food is never wasted.”
